Abia Assembly Advocates Changes In State Polytechnic, Thanks Governor Otti
The advocacy came to limelight during a plenary chaired by the Speaker of the Assembly, Right Honourable Emmanuel Emeruwa at the legislative complex, in Umuahia, the State Capital.
The development followed a presentation made by the majority leader of the house who also doubles as the Chairman House Committee on Education, Uchenna Okoro after an on-the-spot assessment tour to the school. The committee further recommended that speed breakers should be constructed at the school gate, existing pedestrian bridge reinforced, building of hostels among other things to improve learning and also reduce the incessant road mishaps occuring along the place.
While the house accepted the committee’s report through a voice vote, there was a call to review the edit establishing the institution to address some flaws bordering on administrative bottle necks and misappropriation of funds.
Under matter of urgent public importance, the member representing Ugwunagbo State Constituency, Hon Chijioke Uruakpa drew the attention of the house to the issue of indiscriminate sewage disposal which has continued to pollution his constituency and impacting negatively on the climate.
The issue was committed to the committee on Environment to visit the Rikez Sewage Disposal Company at Ugwunagbo for an on-the-spot assessment and revert in two weeks.
Before the house adjourned to a later date, the Deputy Speaker, Right Honourable Augustine Okezie appreciated the state governor, Dr Alex Otti for creating some relevant institutions especially State Security Advisory Council and Security Trust Fund to help improve the protection of lives and property of the citizenry.
