Abia Assembly Urges Fed Govt To Speed Up Construction of Ikot-Ekpene Road

…Praises Gov Otti’s Commitment in Building Rural Roads

Abia State House of Assembly has urged the federal government to accelerate efforts towards the completion of the ongoing reconstruction work at the Ikot-Ekpene federal road to decongest traffic and easy commuters’ stress.

While ruling on a motion for the rehabilitation of Olokoro -Amaoba road, the speaker of the house, Rt. Hon Emmanuel Emeruwa appreciated Governor Alex Otti for the massive attention he has paid to the development of rural roads in parts of the state.

Presenting the motion during plenary, the member representing Ikwuano constituency, Hon Boniface Isienyi noted that the present state of Ikot-Ekpene federal road which leads to many landmarks like National Research Institute, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture among others has put more pressure on the alternative Olokoro-Amaoba road and called for it’s urgent rehabilitation. He explained that the deplorable state of the internal road has further compounded the woos of farmers who convey agricultural produce to cities via it adding that other commuters were not immunised against the pitiable state of the road.

The members representing Umuahia South and Umunneochi constituencies; Hon Emeka Obioma and Hon Mathias Ume supported and seconded the motion stressing that mending or rehabilitation of Olokoro-Amaoba road would save its users fortunes and befitting the state infrastructure.
