August Meeting: Ohanivo Women Association in Ebonyi State Rolls out Plans to Empower Members

As August meeting avails women from the Igbo tribe of Nigeria an opportunity to interact with the view of adding value to themselves, families and communities where they come from either by birth or marriage, our guest writer Dr Chika Okorie in this editorial focuses on the 2024 August gathering of Ohanivo Women Association in Ebonyi State.

“Since 1965, women from South East region of Nigeria which comprises the five states of Ebonyi, Abia, Enugu, Anambra and Imo have consistently been convening an annual event in the month of August to brainstorm on issues bordering on peacebuilding and development at the home front and community levels.

“This congress with the tag “August Meeting” holds at different strata of the society by featuring women both at home and in diaspora as well as some other invited guests. This year in Ebonyi State and precisely on the 8th day of August, the first lady and wife of the Governor, Her Excellency, Chief Mrs Uzoamaka Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru hosted the female folks on a theme; “A Wise Woman Builds Her Home”.

“Apart from the lectures delivered by professionals, Ebonyi women irrespective of political inclinations among other considerations were empowered in diverse ways to go into different trades of choice in order to contribute meaningfully to their families and the society by extension. The impactful outing would no doubt forever remain green in the memories of the people with a common pedigree and rich cultural heritage.

“In the light of the above, Ohanivo Women Association(OWA) which is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and secular body shielding all the women from Old Ohozara now known as Ohanivo Federal Constituency will tomorrow Friday, 30th August, 2024 join the aged long tradition for the first time in what she entitled “August General Meeting and N100 Million Ohanivo Women Capacity Building/Empowerment Project Launch”.

“OWA, the umbrella body covering all women from Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo council areas is also non-discriminatory as it champions an all round empowerment of her members by making them independent, reliable, responsive and responsible leaders in various spheres according to their strengths and opportunities.

“The association targets repositioning and strengthening the status of women through a powered packed capacity building matched with tangible resources in terms of finances among others to venture into different value chains of agriculture and other sectors of the economy. These strategic and calculated efforts will help to boost self worth, alleviate poverty and curb other social ills among the female gender, families and communities as a whole.

“The association under the leadership of its National President, Hon. Chinwe Lilian Nwachukwu who also doubles as the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru on Education will in a fascinating manner celebrate the first lady of the state, Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru (Nneoha) as her Mother of the Day and the immediate past Governor of the state and now Minister of Works, His Excellency, Engr Sen David Nweze Umahi CON as Grand Patron.

“Going by the aphorism that “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” the beautiful and amazing women will also utilise the privilege of the gathering to unwind by featuring match past and other entertainment varieties.

“Tomorrow, Friday 30th day August, 2024 all roads lead to Obiozara, the headquarters of Ohaozara local government area, the venue for the August meeting as the OHANIVO Women Association dictates the tune of the music to the admiration of all.
