BRAIN DRAIN: GOV NWIFURU APPROVES ALLOWANCE Of N150,000 For Medical Doctors
Determined to curb brain drain in the health sector in Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has approved a relief allowance of one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000.00) each to be added to the salaries of medical doctors working in general hospitals across the State.
The Governor gave the approval and immediate payment on Monday in his office, new government house, Abakaliki, when he received in audience the members of Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team (AMURT) Foundation (a non-governmental organisation (NGO), led by its Global Director, Peter Sage.
Governor Nwifuru noted that the gesture is to advance his practical approach to delivering quality healthcare services to the people of Ebonyi, adding that it will assist the doctors in fueling their new cars and offsetting other sundry expenses.
He assured that the State Government will continue to partner with AMURT, which is currently working in some rural communities of the State.
“AMURT’s focus is on primary healthcare delivery, with major emphasis on maternal and child health,” said the State Governor.
He maintained that he has integrated AMURT staff into the State Civil Service to boost their morale, adding that should AMURT cease operations in the State, the health workers integrated into the State Civil Service will continue serving the rural areas, using the AMURT facilities that will be left as health centres.
With this among other incentives, the way medical doctors leave healthcare facilities in the state in search of greener pastures outside the shores of Nigeria would drastically reduce or stop.
