Clean Cooking Energy is Achievable by 2030 – Says Former Lawmaker
…Lauds President Tinubu’s Efforts to Milk untapped Potentials in Renewable Energy Sector for industrialisation
In his unwavering determination to contribute to the nation’s economic growth, the sponsor of Nigeria’s Climate Change Act, Chief Sam Onuigbo has reiterated the need for leaders to turn their searchlights in milking untapped potentials in the renewable energy sector to encourage industrialisation.
Chief Onuigbo who sponsored the bill when he held sway for the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives between 2015 and 2023, stated that during an exclusive interview with our reporter, Ngozi Kalu on how to unlock the energy market with a view to industrialise the nation.
The former national legislator, Chief Onuigbo who is currently representing the South East on the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) observed that Nigeria has a huge energy market with about 90million underserved population stressing that the deficit would be bridged through the implementation of Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The advocate of good governance, Chief Sam Onuigbo remarked that the constitutional amendment which moved electricity from the exclusive to the concurrent List and the subsequent enactment of the Electricity Act 2023 with the provisions for off-grid and mini-grid generation and distribution of power were laudable moves of the present government, the masses should venerate.
Speaking on the Climate Change Act in line with its provision for research and development on renewables, Chief Onuigbo said achieving the nations Clean Cooking Policy traceable to universal clean cooking energy access would triple renewable energy capacity by 2030 and industrialization would be inevitable.
While noting that Nigeria is a fertile ground for investments in renewables, chief Onuigbo charged both local and international investors to maximise the flourishing opportunity to grow their empires and the country.
The special engagement with our correspondent further highlighted the position of Chief Onuigbo during the 14th International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA ) Assembly; the IRENA Legislators Forum; Regional Energy Transition Outlooks in Africa : Operational Workshop on Regional Scenarios; World Future Energy Summit hosted by MASDAR, which took place earlier this year, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
