Ebonyi APC Grand finale: Former Senate President Anyim Defects
Former President of the Senate Anyim Pius Anyim has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Anyim joined the ruling party with thousands of his loyalists at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Abakaliki during the grand finale of APC local government elections campaign on Saturday.
In his speech, Senator Anyim who was also a Secretary to the Government of the Federation said that the recent move was not about personal interest but that of the people of Ebonyi State stressing that Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has done exceptionally well.
He thereafter presented a three point communique which centered on the incredible works of the governor and the need to form stronger synergy between him and the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Other party juggernauts who defected to APC alongside thousands of their loyalists were; the labour party governorship candidate, Sir Arch Edward Nkwuegu and Senator Obinna Ogba.
Handing over the flag of the APC to the defectors, the National Chairman of the party Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, commended them for their bold step and described Senator Anyim as a big fish.
He said the event marked s significant milestone in the political alignment in the South East region of the country adding that it was part of the efforts towards ending the perceived marginalisation of the people of the region.

In his remarks, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State eulogized the new members and promised them equal opportunities.
“I must congratulate this defectors for deeming it necessary to join our party, all the new entrants will be carried along”
“I am committed to the ideals of the party by accommodating all opinions, this is a new begining for you”
“Today is a significant gesture of solidarity, to have the National chairman and members of the National Working Committee to the state”
“APC is rooted in Ebonyi state, our local government election will be held on 20 July 2024”
“With the capacity of our candidates for the local government election, victory will be ours in the forthcoming election”
“We have ensured human capital development, we have revamped our moribund industries, our international airport has been completed”
Earlier, the Ebonyi State chairman of the party, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha appreciated Governor Nwifuru for creating a favourable environment which stimulated their appetite to join.
With the latest development, political pundits in Ebonyi State were of the opinion that the forthcoming council elections in the state has been won already.
