Ebonyi First Lady Visits Gas Explosion Victims; Donates ₦4m
The wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Mary-Maudaline Nwifuru has donated Four Million Naira to support the medical bills of the victims of gas explosion which occurred at Good Shepherd Catering School in Orokeonuoha in Ebonyi council area of the state recently.
Mrs Nwifuru gave the donation when she visited Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, where the victims aged 12-19 were receiving treatment.
According to her, two million naira from her foundation, Better Health for Rural Women Children and Internally Displaced BERWO was for the support of the victims’ treatment while she provided nine-year-old Anita Afamuefuna with an additional two million naira to cover her surgical expenses.
Mrs. Nwifuru appealed to the medical personnel to provide the best possible care for the victims and ensure their swift recovery.
Recall that the gas explosion which occurred last weekend, at Good Shepherd Catering School in Orokeonuoha, Ebonyi, had claimed the lives of two students and Eight others, left with severe burns.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Robinson Onoh, assured that medical experts are committed to providing necessary treatment.
According to Onoh, who was represented by Dr. Uchenna Nwedu, chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, CMAC, eight victims were currently receiving treatment in the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Burns and Plastic unit out of the ten earlier admitted.
“one was discharged after 24 hours admission while one died due to severe burns, Remaining 8. Out of the 8, 6 of them have major burns injury, more than 60 percent affectation and they have been receiving and responding to treatment”. Nwedu said.
Meanwhile, Anita’s grandmother, Mrs. Grace Nwankwoagu, expressed gratitude for Mrs. Nwifuru’s financial support, revealing that they had been admitted to the hospital for three months.
