Enthusiasts Call For Establishment of Music Industry in Ebinyi State To Harness Potentials
….As St. Stephen Catholic Church Agubia, Ikwo holds Maiden Music Festival
Rev Fr Alexander Eze has advocated the establishment of a music industry in the Abakaliki Dioceses to help harness young talents and diversify the economy of Ebonyi State.
The cleric who is in charge of the St. Stephen Catholic Church Agubia, Ikwo council area of the State gave the suggestion during the maiden edition of the church’s music festival which featured classical, folk, liturgical, and contemporary songs, award giving among other varieties of things.
During his sermon, Rev Fr Eze said God is merciful and cannot assign a task too difficult to execute to his elect stressing that happiness, love and gratitude should be christian virtues the worshippers should not trivialised.
He charged them to recognise humanity as one and laid emphasis on the imperativeness of developing the music industry as a veritable tool to draw the younger generation to God and also make them self reliant.
While enlisting other benefits of establishing a standard music industry within the diocese, Rev Fr Eze said it has the capacity to revitalise the economy, create job opportunities, address therapeutic and emotional needs of the people.
The Catholic priest revealed that one of the children who played musical instruments during the performances was awarded a scholarship from secondary school to university level noting that the industry has remained widely untapped in the diocese and Ebonyi State in general.
Rev Fr Eze stated that a soul without music is dead because it has the capacity to revive and put people at their best. The cleric called on investors both government and individuals to leverage on the opportunity to build wealth and empower young minds.
Describing the recent development in the church as impressive and laudable, an awardee, Sir Linus Amaga who was a choir master from 1962 till 1974 said there was nothing like clapping, dancing nor beating of drum during their time. Sir Amaga revealed that he purchased the instrument the choristers used for the adding that the award invokes a great excitement within him.
Another music lover and award recipient, Emmanuel Nwofoke expressed satisfaction on the event and noted that investment in the music industry would have a ripple effect on the people and diocese.
About 10 persons were honoured with awards due to their contributions to the growth of music in the area.
