Enugu: Igbo-Etiti Chairman Hails Mbah’s Non-Interference

Chairman of Igbo Etiti Local Government Area, Dr. Eric Odo, says the rapid transformation witnessed in the council within his first year in office is largely due to Governor Peter Mbah’s non-interference in local government finances.
Odo made the remark on Wednesday while briefing journalists during a mega solidarity rally held at the council headquarters in Ogbede. The event, organised by stakeholders of the area, was aimed at appreciating the governor’s “good governance” and reaffirming support for his re-election bid in 2027.
The chairman said residents of Igbo-Etiti had resolved to back Governor Mbah for a second term, citing what he described as the governor’s “landmark achievements” and commitment to accelerated development across the state.
Odo explained that his administration had domesticated the governor’s development blueprint, resulting in notable progress in infrastructure, health, and security within the council.
Highlighting key projects, he announced the upgrade of Ogbede Cottage Hospital to a secondary healthcare facility equipped to handle various surgical procedures. The council, he added, also built residential quarters for medical personnel and is willing to pay doctors as high as ₦1 million monthly to ensure their retention.
On security, Odo disclosed that the council had supplied modern security equipment and vehicles to agencies operating in the area, including the neighbourhood watch. He revealed that the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps would soon commission the newly constructed NSCDC Area Command in Nkporogwu Ukehe, along with two divisional headquarters in Ohodo and Ekwegbe.
The chairman further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to social welfare, noting that over 1,000 widows and vulnerable persons were currently on the council’s monthly support scheme. He added that several others had benefited from housing interventions, vocational training, and empowerment programmes.
“As I promised during my campaign, the poor will take the driver’s seat while the rich will take the back seat,” he said.
He listed other achievements to include provision of water across the council with water galleries, empowerment of less privileged persons, provision of good security network, construction of roads among others.
Odo, a renowned surgeon also vowed that his administration would sustain the Open Defecation Free (ODF) statues recently granted to the local government.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr Odo disclosed that his administration had settle the age-long boundary dispute between Ikolo and Aku communities in the local government.
