Gov Nwifuru Proffers Solution to End Medical Tourism and Brain Drain

Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has called for an enhanced remuneration for health professionals in Nigeria to reduce medical tourism and other related issues.

Governor Nwifuru revealed this in a joint courtesy visit of the Abakaliki Medical Doctors Association, AMDA and Nigerian Medical Association, Abakaliki Branch in his office, Government House, Abakaliki

He believed that migration Health workers to other countries for better working conditions destroys the nation’s efforts of building a formidable healthcare system and urged the physicians to continue rendering services to the people without minding criticism.

“Your job is risky. No one asks what you go through. All the people want is that the doctor must be on duty.

“Your jobs are very challenging. It is sad you suffer these injuries of doing a job, you are most atimes not commended”.

Commending the Indigenous Doctors for their medical outreach progmmes, the Governor said:

“I am very indebted to you all the indigenous doctors, you worked for me during the election”

He expressed readiness to support the policies and programs of the indigenous Abakaliki Medical Doctors and NMA given their long history of support to his government.

“You have been supporting me for a long time. I don’t take your support for granted.

“In Ebonyi State we are committed to quality healthcare services to the our people.

“When you are going for your outreach programs, let me know. We will support you in this regard”.

Dr. Desmond Ekunyi Eze, Chairman, AMDA, who earlier spoke alongside Doctor Charles Maduba, Chairman, NMA, expressed appreciation for Governor Nwifuru’s midas touch in the state’s health sector.

Doctor Ekunyi maintained that AMDA has taken it upon herself to stepdown the efforts so far shown by the Governor and sought government’s assistance for mobility to drive their outreaches initiatives to the rural areas.

“We are here as willing partners to solidify your efforts in revising health sector. To ensure the General Hospitals in the state become the best in the entire country.

“We have an intention to organise medical outreaches.

“We are seeking approval to eliminate quackery. This needs daily monitoring and surveillance”, he said.
