
Gov. Nwifuru Speaks on Funding Research To Boost Industrialization
Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has undertaken to fund any academic research geared towards industrialization of the state.
Governor Nwifuru made the disclosure during the unveiling of “Trend In Health, Administration, Politics And Academia”, a Festschrift in honour of Prof Chigozie Ogbu who is a former Deputy Governor in the State and the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.
Governor Nwifuru charged academics at the Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki to create needed visibility of the state through their research endeavours.
The Governor said with the current economic realities and the urgency of research-driven governance to address problems, the academics should move from theories to practice.
“As academics, I want you to be productive. Move from theoretical knowledge to practice and productivity.
“As government we are available to fund any research endeavour that will move this state to productive”
“Those in technologies should translate it into concrete realities”.
In their separate speeches, former Governors Chief Martin Elechi, Dr Sam Egwu, former President of the Senate, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim described Professor Ogbu as a consummate administrator and an erudite scholar who successfully combined politics with academic.
While reviewing the 58 chapter book spread across 957 pages, the book reviewer and former President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo stated that the Festschrift across multidisciplinary fields is a must read, even as he commended Professor Ogbu for his intellectual sagacity and astuteness.
