Gov Otti’s Performance Lured YPP Members Says Abia State Deputy Speaker

The Deputy Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Augustine Okezie has commended the two members of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) who defected to the ruling Labour Party during plenary on Tuesday.

Speaking to the press after the plenary, Okezie said although the assembly has been relatively peaceful, the defection would further speed up the process of legislation especially in the passage of bills that would promote good governance in the state.

While pointing out that the defectors were expelled from YPP due to what they termed antiparty activities, the Deputy Speaker, Okezie noted that there is no right thinking individual who would not like to associate with the incredible leadership style of the Governor which has brought tangible achievements in all the corners of the state.

“The house has been relatively peaceful apart from the initial and minor crisis. We have also enjoyed seamless house of Assembly both at the executive sessions and plenary.

“The defection no doubt is going to add some vigor to the labour folks but most importantly legislative business. For the 2 YPP members who just joined us, we are grateful and happy.

Rt Hon. Okezie furthermore expressed optimism that the remaining members of the house in opposition parties may likely join his party soon considering the fact the present administration in the state has changed the narrative of underdevelopment.

“I will not be surprised if by next sitting the remaining members basically the APC member and others from the PDP write us to communicate their intentions to join the labour party because of the Governor’s enormous transformations. What the labour party led by His Excellency, the Governor, Dr Alex Otti is doing in Abia State is what every other government in the country should emulate to better the wellbeing of the masses.

During plenary, the defectors who are representing Osisioma North Constituency, Hon. Iheanaocho Nwogu and his Osisioma South Constituency counterpart, Hon Onyekachi Ahuama said they were expelled from YPP because of their support to Governor Alex Otti’s led administration which has done exceptionally well for the people of Abia State.
