Independence: Gov Nwifuru On Chuba Okadigbo airport- Aviation’s Boss
..Flight Operation in Sight to Boost Economy
On the sideline of this year’s independence anniversary of Nigeria and Ebonyi State’s creation, the Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, Dr Ngozi Obichukwu has revealed Governor Nwifuru’s efforts towards ensuring that flight operation commences at Chuba Okadigbo airport.
Dr. Obichukwu made this known while speaking with newsmen immediately after the celebration of the intertwined events in Abakaliki, the State’s capital.
While commending the Governor for his people’s oriented administration, she said the government is engaging necessary authorities and regulatory agencies to fully activate the aviation sector in order to boost job opportunities and business transactions in the state.
Revealing that the rehabilitation work done on the runway of the Chuba Okadigbo airport engulfed N17 billion, the commissioner said that it is only NCAA and FAN can give the actual date the flight operations would be fully mobilised stressing that the project is catalyst for economic development.
“In the country we have 22 airport which 5 among them are international airports and Ebonyi is going to be one immediately we receive the license to start flying and looking at the strategic position of the airport, our catchment areas are not in doubt talk of ikom, Benue, kogi and Abia this are the areas we are hoping and is not only the human traffic we are talking of cargo airport in other to address the market flow of Ebonyi State.
“We are going to be linking with other countries and I have started receiving applications from Dubai so that they could be coming here to buy our produce and go back to their country. So the economic revival and boost cannot be over emphasized once we commence flight operation” she stated.
The commissioner, however noted that the creation of Ebonyi State by the former military head of state, late Sani Abachi brought greater development and progress to the people of the state.
“The birth of Ebonyi State has brought so many good dividends in the State. Ebonyi has been lucky in governance because all her leaders did well. The present Governor, His Excellency, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is breaking the bank with lots of development to the fancy of his people.
“Today under the indefatigable leadership of Governor Nwifuru, we are celebrating economic development, social development, regional development, general administration and we are thankful to God and we appreciate Gov. Nwifuru.
“We are already engaging necessary authorities, regulations, and regulations to permit air operations in earnest. So right now, we have passed almost all their tests. Before now we were waiting for the friction test and all the other tests by the Grace of God, we are getting through.
“I plead with Ebonyi people. Aviation is like a hospital, we are talking about safety of lives, it is not ordinary to buy and sell in the market so everything that needs to be done should be done in accurate regulations.
