A foremost stalwart of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Senator who represented Ebonyi North District at the National Assembly between 1999 and 2003, Chief Sylvanus Ngiji Ngele has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Similarly, Mrs Lilian Ngozi Eziulo who was a member in the last session of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and candidate of the PDP for Afikpo North East constituency in the 2023 general elections has also defected to the ruling APC.

Receiving the defectors, many described as the main pillars of the opposition party alongside their loyalists at Nkaliki, the headquarters of Abakaliki Council Area and Amuro Mgbom Community Secondary School field, Afikpo respectively, the State APC, Chairman Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha thanked them for their sound decision and swift move.

The APC boss, Chief Emegha noted that the latest intakes are great leaders whose achievements speak volumes and urged them to throw their weight behind the administration of the state governor, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru stressing that he runs an all inclusive government.

“I’m happy to welcome you and others into our political family and best party too. We have really caught two big fishes. Your presence in the party is a great thing because we know your capacity.

“There is no sound person that is not happy with the administration of our God given governor, His Excellency, Rt Hon Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. The governor is a true father who carries everyone along. He runs an all inclusive government and has been putting smiles on the faces of Ebonyi people. Others who are yet to join us should join and enjoy with us because we all brothers and sisters, and our house is too large to contain everybody.

“From today, we are all one and have equal rights in the party and everyone will be treated fairly. Feel free and make input when necessary for the progress of the party and our dear state”, Emegha said.

In their separate speeches, Senator Ngele Mrs Eziulo reinstated their resolve to pick the broom and also support the good works of the state governor who has brought so many dividends of democracy to the Ebonyi and her people.

Stakeholders in attendance during the political move were Abakaliki Council Chairman, Hon Ebere Nwogba and his Afikpo counterpart Hon Uchenna Ibiam; Leader of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Kingsley Ikoro; other state Assembly Members representing Afikpo North East constituency, Hon Oluchukwu Ezeali and Abakaliki North constituency, Hon Chidi Victor Nwoke.

The Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Timothy Nwachi; a business mogul, Engr Chief Ogbonnia Ibru Nwachi among others were also present.

However, the stakeholders commended Governor Nwifuru for his incredible leadership style and also described Chief Emegha as a worthy foot soldier of the governor.
