One Year Anniversary: Abia Lawmakers Yet To Receive Official Vehicles Says Speaker

Blames Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing company

The Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa says members are yet to receive official vehicles one year after their proclamation.

Chief Emeruwa made this known while briefing journalists on the one year achievements of the House which was inaugurated on June 14, 2023 at the Conference Room of the State Assembly in Umuahia.

According to the Speaker of the eight session of the Assembly, Chief Emmanuel Emeruwa Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) Company was to be blamed for bridging the supply contract after receiving full payment. He also issued a two week ultimatum to the company to deliver the vehicles or face a refund of the money.

In another development, he revealed that a political solution would soon be worked out to swear in Mr Aaron Uzodike that was declared winner in the 2023 election by the Appeal Court to represent Aba North State Constituency in the state hallowed chamber. The speaker further noted that after a date was fixed for him to be sworn in, Mr Uzodike was served an interlocutory injunction necessitating the suspension of the earlier planned event.

Enumerating on the giant strides of the assembly, Chief Emeruwa stated that five out of 15 bills presented to the house passed third reading. He listed the bills that scaled through to include the 2023 Appropriation bill, Greater Aba Development Authority bill, 2024 Appropriation bill, the Governor and Deputy Governor Pension Review bill, and the Medicine/Health Commodities bill.

The Speaker who was accompanied by 17 out of the 24 members of the assembly added that they treated 46 petitions, 55 motions and 50 resolutions within the period in retrospect.

Still on scorecard during the period under review, the speaker said the instrumentality of legislation has helped to promote good governance in the state and promised a more robust and harmonious proceedings in years to come stressing that the cordial relationship existing between them and the executive arm of government has been exemplary in a democratic dispensation.

Meanwhile, in their separate speeches, Deputy Speaker, Hon Augustine Okezie and the Majority Leader, Hon Uchenna Okoro who noted that the House has through its legislative proceedings and oversight functions ensured the implementation of various policies and programs of the state government. They also appreciated the state Governor, Dr Alex Otti for his pragmatic approach to leadership which has brought so many dividends of democracy to the people.
