South East Roads Among Nigeria’s Best, Says PenCom Commissioner, Samuel Uwandu
The Federal Commissioner, Inspectorate at the National Pension Commission, Samuel Uwandu, has commended governors of the South East for what he described as remarkable improvements in road infrastructure across the region.
Uwandu made the remarks during his PENCOM International Women’s Day tour in the zone, which was aimed at capturing women in the informal sector under the Personal Pension Plan (PPP) to help them secure their future.
In an exclusive interview session, he observed that the federal highways linking the commercial and administrative hubs of states in the South East are among the best he has seen anywhere in Nigeria in recent years.
“I had the privilege of traveling from Enugu to Awka, then Onitsha, Owerri, and down to Aba. The federal roads connecting these cities are probably the best anywhere in Nigeria today. From my own estimation, they are about 85 percent completed, and the quality of the construction is unbelievably good,” he said.
The commissioner noted that the journey gave him a firsthand opportunity to assess the level of development in the region’s transport infrastructure. While he was uncertain whether the projects were executed by the Federal Government or the various state governments, he commended the leadership of the South East for prioritizing road development.
Uwandu particularly praised the transformation taking place in Imo State under the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
“If you have been to Owerri in the last nine months, you may not even recognize the city when entering through the Onitsha Road axis. Governor Hope Uzodimma has really done wonders with the ongoing infrastructure upgrades,” he added.
He also expressed appreciation for the overall commitment of South East leaders to regional development, describing them as true sons of the soil who are determined to improve the welfare of their people.
“May God bless our South Eastern governors. In my view, they are the best we have had since 1999,” Uwandu stated.
