Kunie Foundation’s Echoes From the Shadows Selected for 2025 Abuja Film Festival
The Kunie Foundation’s short film anthology, Echoes From the Shadows, has been selected for screening at the 2025 Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF).
Produced in collaboration with Afrochives Studio, the anthology tells human-centered stories from Iva Valley, a community in Enugu State often excluded from national discourse. The films highlight the struggles and resilience of women, children, and youths facing poverty, gender inequality, and social exclusion.
According to the Foundation, the project reflects its mission to advance social inclusion, gender equity, and economic transformation through evidence-based advocacy and partnerships.
The three short films explore themes of masculinity and gender-based violence, the impact of poverty on aspirations, and how weak health systems and exclusion deepen inequality.
Executive Director of the Kunie Foundation, Ms. Damilola Oyewusi, said the selection underscores the power of storytelling as a policy tool. She expressed hope that the film would spark dialogue and drive action on poverty, gender, and inclusion in Nigeria.
“Storytelling helps us confront uncomfortable truths with empathy.
“Echoes From the Shadows gives voice to people who are too often spoken about, but rarely listened to.
The Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF), now in its 22nd edition, has selected the Kunie Foundation’s short film anthology, Echoes From the Shadows, for screening.
“Platforms like AIFF will help move these experiences from the margins to the centre of development conversations,” she hinted.
Recognized as one of Africa’s leading platforms for socially impactful cinema, the festival will celebrate films that inspire dialogue and change.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the selection highlights the Kunie Foundation’s growing use of creative media for advocacy, empathy, and transformation.
Founded by Frank Nweke II, the Foundation promotes innovative approaches to economic empowerment, gender equality, and inclusive development in Nigeria and beyond.
