The Ebonyi State Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Comrade Friday Christian Nwovu, has congratulated the association’s National President, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Usman, on his re-election for a second term, urging members to unite behind his leadership.
Nwovu described Usman’s victory at the election in Kaduna as a testament to his achievements, inclusive leadership and commitment to the welfare of persons living with disabilities.
He commended the conduct of the election, describing it as free and fair, and urged state chairmen to support the national leadership in advancing members’ interests.
The Ebonyi chairman said Usman’s leadership style, characterised by dialogue, consultation, tolerance and respect for diverse opinions, offered valuable lessons for leaders within the association.
He pledged to emulate these qualities by promoting unity and addressing issues affecting persons living with disabilities in Ebonyi State.
Nwovu also commended the national president for renovating and equipping JONAPWD’s national office in Abuja, expressing hope that the Ebonyi chapter would establish a similar facility to support digital skills training, job creation and members’ empowerment.
He urged state chairmen to shun selfish interests and internal divisions, warning that factionalism could weaken the association’s collective voice and undermine its advocacy for the rights and benefits of their members.
Nwovu urged members to unite and intensify advocacy for their rights and inclusion in decision-making, stressing that they should work harder to claim their entitlements rather than depend on the privileges.
