Accuse Mbah Of Marginalization, Seek National Intervention

The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has deepened, as foundation members threaten mass defection over alleged marginalization by Governor Peter Mbah and exclusion from party structures and elective positions.

The aggrieved members warned that continued neglect of party loyalists could trigger an irreparable crisis, urging the party’s national leadership to intervene before the situation escalates.

The position was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the group’s representative, a chieftain and former Director of Research, Strategy and Intelligence Matters at the APC National Headquarters, Abuja, Barth Ifeanyi Ugwoke, Esq.

Ugwoke said the grievances prompted an emergency meeting of foundation and old APC members across the six local government areas of Enugu North Senatorial District.

The group alleged that its members were being systematically edged out of party positions, including ward and local government executive offices.

It lamented that only one female from the foundation/old APC bloc was considered for a councillorship ticket across the 106 wards in Enugu North Senatorial District, while no foundation member secured an LGA chairmanship ticket across the state’s 17 LGAs.

The statement further alleged that no foundation member was considered for elective positions during the statewide primaries, except one woman who secured a State House of Assembly ticket following intense agitation.

Describing the alleged exclusion as political injustice against members who sustained the party through more than two decades in opposition, the group said the development had demoralised loyalists and pushed some towards opposition parties.

The members also faulted what they described as Mbah’s silence over their complaints, warning that they would no longer remain silent while their contributions to the party were allegedly being disregarded.

They called on the APC national leadership and influential stakeholders to urgently intervene, reconcile aggrieved members and prevent further defections that could undermine the party’s unity and electoral fortunes in Enugu State.
