
President Tinubu Describes Late Dr Onu As Perfect Gentleman
….As Gov Nwifuru Donates N100 Million To Complete Dr Onu Legacy Project
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the first civilian Governor of Old Abia State and immediately past Minister of Science and Technology, late Sir Dr. Ogbonnaya Christopher Onu as a patriotic Nigeria, perfect gentleman, unifier and leader who stood for Justice and fairness.
The speech of the president was read at his funeral mass at Christ the Kings Catholic Church, Uburu, Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi State by the Minister of Works, Engr David Nweze Umahi.
President Tinubu noted that Dr. Onu lived a life of emulation adding that as a nation, Nigeria will continue to strive to achieve good governance for the people.
Meanwhile, Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru donated 100 Million naira to the Church building, Christ the Kings Parish, which the deceased State started in 1993.
Governor Nwifuru explained that Dr. Onu was a true progressive who worked assiduously to ensure the progress, unity and stability of Nigeria and Ebonyi State inclusive. He also appreciated Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti for renaming Abia State Polytechnics to Dr Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnics, Aba during a tribute in his honour in the state.
Furthermore, the representative of the President and Minister of Works, Engr David Nweze Umahi also supported the church building with the sum of 99,000,000 naira to help in completing the project commences 31 years ago by the late septuagenarian.
The Presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, both serving and former Governors in the South East region, Ministers, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen Anyim Pius Anyim, Ebonyi APC chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha were among political leaders that attended the burial ceremony,
Furthermore, the representative of the President and Minister of Works, Engr David Nweze Umahi also supported the church building with the sum of 99,000,000 naira.
The officiating ministers include; the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, Dr Peter Nworie Chukwu, other Bishops and a host of other priest.
Dr Ogbonnaya Onu died at the age of 72 years in April, this year with his wife, 4 children and other relatives to mourn his earthly departure to eternal glory.
