St. Augustine’s Seminary Promotes Holistic Education, Says Rector Omaka
…Encourages Stakeholders to Be Deliberate in Shaping Children’s Future
The Rector of Saint Augustine’s Seminary, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Matthias Omaka, has emphasized that the institution is dedicated to providing a holistic education that shapes students into responsible and well-rounded individuals.
Dr. Omaka made this statement during the annual meeting of Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), held at the seminary’s premises in Ezzangbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, on Saturday.
In his eight-page address, Dr. Omaka outlined the key areas of focus in the school’s training process: human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral development. He highlighted the importance of a family-like environment where students are affirmed and held accountable for their actions, regardless of the circumstances which the seminary pride in.
Reaffirming the critical roles of both parents and teachers in the development of students, Dr. Omaka cautioned against overindulgence, stressing that pampering children can lead to their development into overgrown infants. He also strongly criticized the excessive use of modern gadgets, such as mobile phones and television, by students at home and charged parents to do the needful.
While expressing satisfaction with the Seminary’s achievements in academics and extracurricular activities during the 2023/2024 formation year, Dr. Omaka noted that the Church has subsidized each student’s fees by N82,000, resulting in a reduction of school fees despite the prevailing economic challenges in Nigeria.
Consequently, the Rectory announced the urgent need to renovate the seminary’s chapel which is currently in bad shape at the cost of approximately N130,000,000.
While the gathering featured an interactive session, where parents raised concerns and received satisfactory responses regarding the Seminary’s future development and progress, Mr. Emmanuel Ogharu and Dr Chika Okorie were elected chairman and vice chairman respectively to pilot the affairs of the PTA for a period of one year.
Saint Augustine’s Seminary, Ezzangbo, was established in 1958 by Most Rev. Dr. T. McGettrick for the then Ogoja Diocese.
