April 1st: Truth or Prank? Gov Nwifuru Caught in the Web

Prince Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru
Governor, Ebonyi State

It is the 1st of April, a day when people across the world joke about almost everything, making it hard to distinguish reality from fiction.

A report reaching factsdaily claims that Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has suspended the Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Mr. Timothy Nwachi, and ordered the arrest of six commissioners for breaching a contract agreement.

The affected commissioners include:

Professor Omari Omaka (Tertiary Education), Victor Chukwu (Environment), Ifeanyi Ogbuewu (Culture and Tourism), Uchenna Igwe (Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters), Moses Ekuma (Health) and Felix Igboke (Project Monitoring)

The allegations suggest that the commissioners have been colluding with certain contractors to undermine the governor’s efforts to complete 140 housing units for the Izzo and Amaze communities ahead of his second anniversary in office.

However, attempts to verify the claims have been unsuccessful. Given that one or two of the affected officials were recently reinstated after previous suspensions, the credibility of the news remains in question.

While some political observers dismiss it as an April Fool’s joke, others believe it might be true, considering the administration’s history.

Regardless of the truth, supporters of the Nwifuru government urge him to take full control and ensure that the people of Ebonyi State benefit from democratic dividends, because time is running fast.
