Court Affirms Right to Record Police, Bars Harassment of Citizens
A Federal High Court sitting in Warri, Delta State, has upheld the constitutional right of Nigerians to record police officers while performing their duties in public, reinforcing transparency and civic freedom.
Delivering judgment on Tuesday in suit No. FHC/WR/CS/87/2025, Justice H. A. Nganjiwa ruled that law enforcement officers must clearly display their identity, including name tags and force numbers, while on duty.
The court further held that officers must not harass, intimidate, arrest, or confiscate devices from citizens who choose to document their activities, describing such actions as unlawful.
This is one of the best judgement Nigerian citizens will celebrate for a long time if matched with proper and adequate implementation.
