… Calls for free, Fair and Transparent Election
By Abraham Ovuoba
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State for the 2027 general election, Chief Chukwuma Ifeanyi Odii, has called for inclusive governance and credible elections, stressing that democracy must translate into improved living conditions for all Nigerians.
In a statement marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, Chief Odii popularly known as Anyichuks said the true essence of democracy lies in ensuring that every citizen has a voice in governance and equal access to opportunities and development.
According to him, Nigeria’s democracy can only achieve its full potential when elections are conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner, where citizens are allowed to choose their leaders without intimidation, manipulation or interference.
The PDP candidate called for an end to electoral fraud, vote manipulation and political godfatherism, stressing that democratic governance should be driven by the will of the people rather than the interests of a privileged few.
Chief Odii further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, civil society organisations, traditional institutions, religious leaders and the media to work collectively towards protecting democratic values and ensuring the credibility of future elections.
He maintained that the recurring challenges of electoral malpractice, abuse of state power and political exclusion must be decisively addressed ahead of the 2027 general elections to strengthen public confidence in the democratic process.
The PDP standard bearer also commended the leadership of the party and members of its National Working Committee for their efforts sustaining democratic principles and promoting internal party stability.
Reaffirming his commitment to Ebonyi State, Odii pledged to pursue a government founded on transparency, accountability and inclusiveness if elected governor in 2027.
He promised to implement policies aimed at improving education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure and youth empowerment, while ensuring that all segments of the state are adequately represented in governance.
Chief Odii assured his supporters that every lawful vote cast in the 2027 election would be protected, adding that Nigeria must move beyond politics of patronage and embrace a democratic culture rooted in merit, fairness and popular participation.
