Ebonyi Launches Strategic Citizens’ Engagement Workshop

Ebonyi State Government has called on media practitioners and citizens to intensify public awareness and effective communication of its policies, programmes and achievements to the wider society.
The call was made on Monday by the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Mrs Patricia Obila, who represented Governor Nwifuru at a two-day workshop tagged “Strategic Citizens’ Engagement, Sensitization and Showcase of the Achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru” in Abakaliki.
The workshop, organised by the State Ministry of Information and State Orientation in collaboration with Iykon Global Foundation, seeks to create a platform to communicate the achievements of both the federal and state governments.
The Deputy Governor said the present administration had embarked on several landmark projects that have positively impacted the people.
According to her, the workshop marks a shift towards greater public communication, urging media practitioners and other participants to showcase the administration’s achievements under the People’s Charter of Needs mantra.
She highlighted interventions in education, infrastructure, human development and overseas scholarship programmes, stressing that the achievements documented so far represented only “a tip of the iceberg.”
Similarly, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barrister Ikeuwa Omebeh, called for stronger cooperation between the government and the media to promote accurate public information on government policies and programmes.
He said the ministry remained open to partnerships that would strengthen citizens’ access to credible information.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of Iykon Global Foundation, Amb. Ephraim Iyke Nwonu, said the organisation conducted surveys across the state and documented projects and programmes implemented by the governor.
Nwonu challenged media practitioners to independently verify the findings and report government achievements based on facts and figures rather than unsubstantiated claims by social media critics.
The event was attended by government officials, traditional and religious leaders, women, youths and students’ leaders, NGOs, various support groups and media practitioners.
