2027: Monarchs Urge Gov Nwifuru to Zone Reps Seat to Edda After 20 Years
As political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Edda Traditional Council has called on Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, to consider zoning the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the House of Representatives to Edda.
The council, led by its Chairman, HRH Ezeogo Oko Onu Ama, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Ebonyi State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, at the party’s state secretariat in Abakaliki.
Speaking on behalf of the revered monarchs, today, Ezeogo Oko Onu Ama noted that the Afikpo axis, which shares the federal constituency with Edda, has held the House of Representatives seat for about two decades. He stressed that, in the spirit of equity and fairness, it is only just for the seat to be zoned to Edda in the next electoral cycle.
He commended Governor Nwifuru for his proactive and decisive intervention in the recent communal crisis between Amasiri in Afikpo Council Area and Okporojo in Edda Local Government Area. According to him, the governor’s swift response helped restore peace and stability, further reinforcing his reputation as a leader committed to unity and conflict resolution.
The monarch described the current administration as one that has entrenched relative peace across Ebonyi State since assumption of office, thereby creating an enabling environment for grassroots development and socio-economic growth.
Ezeogo Ama also expressed appreciation to the governor for facilitating the re-election of Chief Emegha as APC State Chairman, noting that the feat makes him the only returned APC chairman in the South-East. He further lauded what he described as the governor’s unprecedented developmental strides in Edda local government area, saying the impact would remain indelible for generations.
In his response, Chief Emegha thanked the traditional rulers for their continued support, prayers, and guidance. He assured them of his unwavering commitment to promoting unity, fairness, and inclusive development within Edda clan and Ebonyi State at large.
He emphasized the importance of sustaining harmony among the various communities, noting that peace remains a critical driver for political stability and development which the administration of Governor Nwifuru stands for.
