The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has intensified efforts to strengthen internal unity, preparing its candidates for the forthcoming general elections.
The state APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, disclosed this on Saturday at the party secretariat following a meeting with candidates of APC ranging from senators, members of the House of Representatives and State House of Assembly, local government chairmen and party chairmen from the 13 local government areas.
Emegha said the meeting was convened to brief candidates on party guidelines, identify challenges and resolve internal disagreements that could undermine the party’s electoral prospects.
He added that regular consultations would help address candidates’ concerns and reconcile members dissatisfied with the outcome of the party’s primaries.
The chairman also urged residents in the state to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the elections, describing them as essential instruments for exercising their democratic rights.
Also speaking, the senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District and Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Senate, Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi, expressed confidence in the APC’s victory, citing Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s achievements and the party’s popularity in the state.
Nwebonyi said the party would sustain consultations ahead of the elections, which he noted were less than 100 days away.
Similarly, the APC candidate for Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency, Hon. Joseph Ekuma Nkama, also expressed optimism about the party’s performance, attributing his confidence to its delivery of democratic dividends.
Nkama clarified that the party’s position was to support the presidential coalition arrangement, while maintaining the APC as it’s preferred platform for other elective positions including the senate, House of Representatives, governorship and State House of Assembly.
