Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State for the 2027 general election after a landslide victory in the party’s primary.
Nnaji secured 7,424 votes to defeat his closest rival, Samson Nnamani, who polled 600 votes at the primary election held in Enugu and supervised by the chairman of the State Governorship Electoral Committee, Austin Nwachukwu.
In his acceptance speech, an elated Nnaji thanked party faithful for the confidence reposed in him, promising not to betray the mandate.
He declared that his mission is to “recover and rebuild Enugu,” accusing the current administration of overburdening residents with excessive taxes.
According to him, landlords, hoteliers, commercial motorcyclists and petty traders have been pushed to the edge by what he described as “obnoxious taxation.”
“The struggle is to recover Enugu, rebuild the state and industrialise it to create jobs for our youths and end restiveness,” he stated.
Nnaji also pledged to improve the living conditions of residents within one term in office, insisting he would serve only four years if elected governor.
Earlier, Nwachukwu commended party members for their peaceful conduct during the exercise, describing the outcome as proof that the PDP remains strong and well-positioned to reclaim power in Enugu in 2027.
