The Ebonyi State Government has sealed two privately owned schools for allegedly operating without official approval from the Ministry of Education.
The affected schools are Delight International School, Onuebonyi, Abakaliki Local Government Area, and Heirloom Foundation Schools, Ugwuachara, Ebonyi Council Area.
Commissioner for Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Donatus Ilang, through the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Mary Ngozi Otozi, said the action was part of efforts to enforce educational standards and ensure a safe learning environment.
The government warned owners of unapproved schools to regularise their operations or face sanctions, stressing that schools operating in unsuitable facilities and collecting illegal levies would not be tolerated.
Mrs Otozi added that surveillance and enforcement across the state would be intensified to identify and sanction more illegal schools.
However, by eliminating substandard schools, Ebonyi can improve educational quality, protect pupils, encourage investment in approved institutions, produce skilled graduates, and accelerate the state’s social and economic development.
