Commercial transport operators in Ebonyi State have endorsed Governor Francis Nwifuru for a second term, highlighting his remarkable transformation in the transport sector as reasons.
The endorsement followed a solidarity road walk from the Ecumenical Centre to Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, where commercial motorcycle riders, tricycle operators, bus drivers, transport unions and government agencies unanimously backed the governor’s 2027 re-election bid.
Commissioner for Works, Stanley Mbam, said the endorsement was a voluntary appreciation of the governor’s achievements, noting that his administration had modernised transport operations, introduced the Ebocab service and expanded public transport with buses for civil servants, students and residents.
The General Manager of EBOTRANS, Mrs. Nnenna Jennifer Igwe, disclosed that the state government’s donation of 20 new Hiace buses enabled the corporation to expand routes to Lagos, Cross River, Ikwo and King David University, while also improving staff welfare.
Commissioner for Transport, Prince Emeka Collins Igboke, commended Governor Nwifuru for promoting internal democracy within transport unions, saying the policy had strengthened peace and stability in the sector.
Leaders of NURTW, RTEAN, the Tipper Drivers Union, and the Tricycle Riders Association also praised the governor for improving their members’ welfare before adopting a motion endorsing him for a second term amid chants of “4+4=8,” a slogan in Ebonyi State since the inception of the present administration.
Representing the governor, Chief of Staff Prof. Emmanuel Echiegu thanked the transport workers for their confidence in the administration, assuring them that the government would sustain policies aimed at improving transportation, safety and economic growth across the state.
