ABAKALIKI – The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has flagged off the construction of the Amike-Aba Internal Road in Abakaliki, reaffirming his commitment to delivering more democratic dividends to his constituents.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony at the Amike-Aba Town Hall on Saturday, Nwebonyi said the road project was part of his resolve to improve infrastructure and the living conditions of the people.
He disclosed that the road would be constructed with concrete pavement to guarantee durability, considering the terrain of the area.
“We are going to construct this road using concrete pavement, considering the structure and topography of this area, with the intention of building a road that can last between 30 and 50 years,” he said.
The senator linked the project to the ongoing infrastructure drive of the Ebonyi State Government, commending Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his support. He also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for sustaining constituency intervention projects through federal budgetary allocations.
In his remarks, the traditional ruler of Nkaleke Echara Autonomous Community, HRH Eze Sunday Oketa, lauded Governor Nwifuru for what he described as purposeful leadership and expressed confidence in his administration’s development agenda.
“Since Ebonyi State was created, many senators have represented Ebonyi North, but this is the man who has made Ebonyi proud,” he said.
“The day I nominated him, many people came to my palace asking why it had to be Nwebonyi. I told them he is capable, courageous, eloquent and has a good heart to serve the people,” the traditional ruler stated.
He urged the senator not to relent in attracting more development projects to the constituency, assuring him of the community’s continued support.
Speaking on behalf of the construction company handling the project, the contractor assured residents that the road would be executed according to specification and completed within the stipulated timeframe.
He pledged that the company would deliver the project safely, promptly and in line with the highest quality standards.
The event was attended by the Chairman of Ebonyi Local Government Area, traditional rulers, village heads, the APC Zonal Chairman, party executives and other stakeholders, who expressed optimism that the project would boost transportation, stimulate economic activities and improve the standard of living of residents upon completion.
