ENUGU – The Enugu State House of Assembly has adopted the report of its Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption on the Auditor-General’s report on the financial accounts of the state government for the 2020–2024 period.

The Assembly adopted the report during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Chief Uche Ugwu, following its consideration by the House Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption, chaired by Mr Chukwuma Ekwueme.

The committee, as part of the Assembly’s oversight responsibility, scrutinised the Auditor-General’s report and observed that the Office of the Auditor-General had followed due process in carrying out its statutory duties.

It, however, urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the state government to submit their financial accounts to the Auditor-General promptly.

The committee said timely submission of accounts was necessary to facilitate effective auditing, legislative oversight and accountability in the management of public funds.

The House subsequently considered and overwhelmingly adopted the committee’s report.

The proceedings were witnessed by members of the House of Representatives from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who were at the Assembly on an academic excursion.
