Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has commissioned a number of development projects in Ohaukwu Local Government Area and presented the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag to the party’s chairmanship candidate, Hon. Paul Eze, ahead of the August 22 local government elections.
Nwifuru, represented by the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Odunwa, performed the commissioning and flag presentation at the Ohaukwu council headquarters during the APC campaign rally on Tuesday.
The governor described the people of Ohaukwu as understanding and committed partners in the development of the state, while endorsing Eze as a man of integrity, trust, peace and development.
He commended the large turnout at the rally and urged the people to vote for all APC candidates in Saturday’s council elections, while also supporting the party at the federal, state and local government levels.
Among the projects commissioned were a bridge linking Oshuowolo, Edomia and Egu-Achara communities; 178 lock-up shops at Okwomgbo Main Market; Amafia Health Centre; and a three-bedroom bungalow built for a widow whose former mud house was destroyed by flood.
Speaking at the event, the state APC chairman, Chief Okoro Emegha, commended the people of Ohaukwu for supporting Nwifuru’s peace-building efforts.
Emegha said development could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, adding that the APC had given Ohaukwu the opportunity to produce its leadership.
He urged residents to reciprocate the party’s support by voting for its candidates in the election.
The Executive Chairman of Ohaukwu LGA, Hon. Prince Ikechukwu Odono, said the commissioned projects were part of efforts to take the governor’s People’s Charter of Needs to the grassroots.
Odono disclosed that the council had also commenced construction of a three-kilometre road to improve access to communities and markets.
The APC chairmanship candidate, Paul Eze, pledged to sustain peace in Ohaukwu and implement the governor’s programmes and policies if elected.
He also promised inclusive governance and people-oriented leadership for residents of the local government area.
