The All Progrcessives Congress (APC) in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the death of an elderly man, Onwe Ubochi, whose body was reportedly found in a stream at Osege, Umuogudu-Oshia, Ngbo.
The APC made the call in a statement issued by its Chairman in Ohaukwu LGA, Engr. Okeh Charles Kelechi, while sympathising with the family of the deceased and the entire Umuogudu-Oshia community over the incident.
The party, however, condemned allegations reportedly made by the APGA candidate for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Mr. Tochukwu Ogalegu, his media aides and supporters, linking the death to political activities.
Kelechi described the alleged political narrative as unfounded, insisting that the circumstances surrounding Ubochi’s death should be established through a proper investigation rather than political accusations and insinuations.
According to the APC chairman, the party’s campaigns had remained peaceful and issue-based, adding that the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru was committed to sustaining peace across the state.
“It is worrisome and totally insensitive to hastily accuse anyone over an issue presently being investigated by the relevant authorities,” the statement said.
The APC therefore urged security agencies to leave no stone unturned in determining what led to the octogenarian’s death and to identify anyone who may have been responsible of the act.
The party also appealed to its members and the general public to remain calm, law-abiding and avoid actions capable of escalating tension in Ohaukwu LGA.
The APC further accused Ogalegu and his media team of attempting to undermine the ruling party through what it described as political sentiments and misinformation.
It also urged the public to disregard what it termed misleading narratives and allow the relevant authorities to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
