ABAKAKIKI -Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has charged newly sworn-in chairmen and members of boards and agencies to provide strategic leadership and direction towards achieving the objectives for which their respective institutions were established.
The charge was contained in a release issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Monday Uzor, on Friday, after the Governor inaugurated newly appointed chairmen, members and heads of various state boards and agencies at his office in Ochoudo Centenary City, Abakaliki.
Those inaugurated include Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, Chairman, Ebonyi State College of Health Sciences, Ezzangbo; Chief Chukwuma Charles Ofoke, Chairman, Ebonyi State Community and Social Development Agency; and Hon. Alphonsus Nwali, Chairman, Ebonyi State Library Board.
Others are Baron Enya Ogbonnia, Coordinator, Amasiri Development Centre; Obinna Oko Eyum, Special Assistant to the Governor on Internal Security in charge of Afikpo; Mrs Patience Gabby Idam, member, Women Development Centre; and Nwokedi Amadi, member, Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Governor Nwifuru said the reconstitution of the boards and agencies was aimed at strengthening their capacity to deliver on their mandates and advance the philosophy behind their establishment.
Speaking on the Ebonyi State Community and Social Development Agency, the Governor said its mandate was closely aligned with the people-oriented agenda of his administration.
“Community Development Agency is an agency that deals with the people in line with the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda of our government,” he said, explaining that the careful selection of the board was deliberate.
On the Ebonyi State Library Board, Nwifuru said his administration was repositioning and equipping libraries across the state to promote learning, research and intellectual development among the people, particularly the youth.
“We discovered that our people are misdirecting their intelligence, so we are equipping the library to arrest the situation where our people resort to social media to castigate our leaders,” he said.
The Governor noted that well-equipped libraries would help reduce moral drift by providing young people with productive avenues for learning, research and intellectual engagement.
At the College of Health Sciences, Ezzangbo, Nwifuru charged the new board to work closely with the management to address the security challenges confronting the institution and ensure a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
He further tasked the Coordinator of Amasiri Development Centre, Baron Enya Ogbonnia, and the Special Assistant on Internal Security, Obinna Oko Eyum, to champion peace, security and sustainable social development in Amasiri.
He described Amasiri as an important part of his administration’s development agenda and urged the appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedicated se
rvice and measurable results.
