Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) Commissioner, Dr. Hyacinth Nwoba, has expressed satisfaction with the massive and peaceful participation of the electorate during the just-concluded council elections in the state.
Dr. Nwoba, who is the Commissioner in charge of Logistics and Field Operations, made this known on Sunday after EBSIEC announced the results at its headquarters in Abakaliki.
He said the large turnout marked an unprecedented development in the history of local government elections in the state, noting that it represented a departure from the voter apathy that had characterised previous council elections.
According to him, the election was conducted in compliance with electoral guidelines and relevant laws, while the absence of violence further demonstrated the credibility of the exercise.
Nwoba attributed the positive outcome to the Commission’s emphasis on planning and the massive support received from Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, saying EBSIEC was adequately prepared to meet the expectations of the people.
“As a Commission, we were primed and poised to meet the expectations of Ebonyi people. Hence, my assessment is that we delivered a free, fair and credible election,” he said.

Dr. Nwoba also charged the 13 elected council chairmen and 171 ward councillors to deepen democracy at the grassroots through purposeful leadership and effective representation.
