The Ebonyi State Government has called on residents to ignore sponsored media campaigns, staged protests and politically driven attacks against Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration, saying such attempts amount to nothing.
The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Ikeuwa Omebeh, made the appeal while addressing journalists in his office in Abakaliki.
Omebeh said although the government recognised the constitutional rights of citizens to express their opinions and engage in peaceful protests, such rights should not be abused by individuals or groups seeking to deliberately mislead the public or undermine government programmes.
He urged Ebonyians to remain calm and discerning, stressing that recent negative narratives against the administration were not supported by facts, evidence or the realities on ground.
According to him, Governor Nwifuru’s administration has demonstrated commitment to the welfare and development of the state through investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development, workers’ welfare, rural development, empowerment programmes and social interventions.
The commissioner said the administration’s development agenda was anchored on the People’s Charter of Needs, which, he noted, places the interests, aspirations and welfare of Ebonyians at the centre of governance.
He acknowledged that political opposition was a normal feature of democracy but condemned attempts to replace facts with propaganda and constructive criticism with politically motivated attacks.
Omebeh however listed ongoing road construction, rehabilitation of schools and healthcare facilities, improved workers’ welfare, rural development projects and empowerment programmes as evidence of the administration’s commitment to improving the living standards of residents.
He therefore challenged citizens to assess the government based on its record and impact, rather than social media narratives, urging them to visit communities, inspect projects and interact directly with beneficiaries of government programmes.
The commissioner further reassured Ebonyians that Governor Nwifuru remained focused on his mandate and would not be distracted by what he described as political theatrics and sponsored attacks.
He called for unity, constructive engagement and development-focused criticism, while urging youths not to allow themselves to be used as instruments for interests contrary to the collective good of the state.
