UMUAHIA— The Abia State Government has announced a Solemn Assembly and Covenant Renewal Service to seek divine guidance and rededicate the state to God ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this in Umuahia, saying the initiative was part of the administration’s commitment to seeking God’s direction in the affairs of the state.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and coordinator of the event, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, said the programme, themed “Remembering the Covenant,” would also provide an opportunity to thank God for His guidance since the 2023 elections.
He recalled that following Governor Alex Otti’s emergence in 2023, Abia held a seven-day fasting and prayer programme, culminating in the rededication of the state to God.
Nwachukwu said, with the 2027 election season approaching, the government decided to renew the covenant and pray for continued peace and prosperity in the state.
He said churches across Abia would observe fasting on September 24, while corporate prayers would hold at the JAAC Auditorium. Thanksgiving services would follow on September 26 and 27 in churches across the state.
