ABAKALIKI—Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered the immediate removal from office of the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam.

The removal takes effect from September 19, 2026, according to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor.

The governor also directed Mbam to immediately hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

He was further ordered to transfer the responsibilities of his office to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works. The statement did not disclose the reason for the commissioner’s removal.

However, Nwifuru assured residents of the state that his administration remained focused on effective governance and the delivery of quality public infrastructure.

The governor said his administration would continue to pursue policies and programmes aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing the welfare of the people of Ebonyi State.

This development means that Mbam ceases to function as Commissioner for Works with effect from September 19, 2026.
