The Enugu State Government has suspended the traditional ruler of Ibagwa Opi Ogbozalla Autonomous Community in Nsukka Local Government Area, Williams Ezugwu, over alleged misconduct.
The Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Charles Egumgbe, announced the suspension in a statement issued in Enugu on Thursday by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Emeka Nebeife.
According to the statement, the suspension took immediate effect following what the government described as the monarch’s “persistent conduct that is inconsistent with some sections of the Traditional Rulers Law of Enugu State.”
The government alleged that Ezugwu failed to subscribe to the community’s code of conduct and had refused to constitute a cabinet to assist in administering the affairs of the community since its creation.
He was also accused of failing to establish a town union executive, thereby allegedly running the community’s affairs single-handedly.
Egumgbe said the actions of the traditional ruler could plunge the community into an avoidable crisis.
The latest suspension comes two months after the state government suspended three traditional rulers and four presidents-general in Ezeagu Local Government Area over alleged misconduct relating to security matters.
