The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointments of former Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Amari Omaka, and former lawmaker, Mr. Nwenugwu Nwite, as commissioners-designate in the state.

On Tuesday, the lawmakers approved the nominees following the consideration of a letter forwarded by Governor Francis Nwifuru seeking legislative confirmation of the appointments. The letter was read during plenary by the Speaker of the Assembly, Chief Moses Ije Odunwa.

In a move that reflected the confidence reposed in the nominees, the House Leader, Chief Kingsley Ikoro, moved a motion that the commissioners-designate be allowed to take a bow and leave without undergoing the usual screening process because of their track records, integrity and contributions to the political development of the state.

The motion was seconded by the member representing Ohaozara West State Constituency, Chief Onu Ukpai, who urged lawmakers to support the request in view of the nominees’ previous public service records and commitment to the growth of Ebonyi State.

The Speaker subsequently put the motion to a voice vote and members unanimously endorsed it, leading to the confirmation of the nominees.

Following the approval, the speaker, Chief Odunwa directed Prof. Omaka and Mr. Nwite to take a bow and leave the chamber in line with parliamentary tradition.

Speaking after the exercise, the Speaker said the appointments were aimed at strengthening governance, enhancing policy implementation and improving service delivery across the state.

He expressed optimism that the commissioners-designate would bring their vast experience to bear in advancing the developmental agenda of Governor Nwifuru’s administration.

Reacting to questions from journalists shortly after their confirmation, Prof. Omaka and Mr. Nwite thanked the governor and members of the Assembly for the confidence reposed in them.

They pledged to deploy their wealth of experience in promoting the policies and programmes of the state government and contributing meaningfully to the continued development of Ebonyi State.
