Igbo-Etiti Council Boss Bags Ambassadorial Award, Promises More Commitment To Vulnerable Groups
The Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Dr. Eric Odo, has been honoured with the Ambassador of Safety and Humanity Award in recognition of his contributions to community development.
The award presentation took place on Monday at the NSCDC Headquarters in Enugu, where the Coordinator of Destined Women and Child Foundation, Ambassador Stella Osigwe, also named him as the Foundation’s patron.
Osigwe explained that the recognition was based on the chairman’s consistent humanitarian efforts, describing his impact as both outstanding and worthy of emulation.
She added that the Foundation focuses on celebrating individuals who have positively influenced society, noting that the chairman’s programmes have attracted attention across the country.
Among the highlighted initiatives are the payment of monthly stipends to widows, widowers, and persons with disabilities, alongside projects targeted at improving the lives of the less privileged.
She encouraged him to remain focused and undeterred by criticism, while also calling on other leaders to follow his example.
“Honourable Mayor, you have distinguished yourself, and there is no better way to appreciate you than this honour.
“Your disposition and attitude towards leadership is uncommon and exemplary,” she added.
In his remarks, the Enugu State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr Elijah Etim Willie, commended the Foundation for recognising deserving individuals, including personnel of the Corps.
He noted that such recognition would inspire recipients to do more, while praising the council chairman for his significant investment in strengthening security infrastructure.
He disclosed that Odo personally funded and equipped two NSCDC Divisional Headquarters in Ekwegbe and Ohodo, as well as an Area Command in Nkporogwu Ukehe.
Willie stressed the importance of celebrating individuals for their contributions while they are alive, describing the Foundation’s initiative as commendable.
Speaking after receiving the award, the council Boss Dr. Odo reiterated his administration’s commitment to people-centred governance, particularly for the vulnerable and disadvantaged.
He stressed that improving the welfare of the poor remains a core focus of his administration and continues to shape its policies and programmes.
“I want to tell you that I am not in power only to provide governance but provide governance that has human face.
“The governance that people can touch, feel, and have a sense that once there was a government that cares for those who have no voice at all and have nobody for them.
“Our duty as a government is to assist those who are really poor and give them a platform for people to equally see them as human being.
“Our administration will not relent in some of the things we do for the less privileged in Igbo-Etiti,” the council boss hinted.
He further pledged to collaborate with and support the Foundation in its efforts to expand its impact on society.
