The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Ebonyi State Chapter, has refuted claims of agreeing to relocate its office to the Remand Home, describing such claims as misleading and unauthorized.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, during a press briefing at its office in Democracy Estate, Abakaliki, the State Chairman of the association, Comrade Friday Nwovu, said no formal meeting, consultation or resolution of the recognised executive had approved such relocation.
Meanwhile, JONAPWD raised concern over alleged impersonation and unauthorized representation, urging government officials, agencies and members of the public to recognise only communications and decisions emanating from its duly constituted State Executive.
Furthermore, the association said it does not oppose dialogue or constructive engagement with the Ebonyi State Government, but insisted that decisions concerning its office, welfare, accessibility and institutional affairs must involve its recognised leadership and members.
According to the association, the proposed relocation raises concerns about accessibility, suitability, dignity, security and the effective administration of the organisation.
Consequently, JONAPWD demanded that any representation suggesting its consent to the relocation be discontinued and corrected, while calling for formal dialogue with the recognised leadership before any relocation is implemented.
However, the association reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful engagement and partnership with government, stressing that decisions affecting persons with disabilities should involve them.
In addition, it urged the general public and media to disregard such claims.
“Nothing About Us Without Us,” the association declared.
