The member representing Ohanivo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr Nkemkanma Kama, has dismissed criticisms of the Ebonyi State administration, saying the achievements of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru are more visible to the people than comments, and likes on social media.
Dr. Kama spoke shortly after a crucial closed-door meeting between the Ebonyi State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and all elected officials of the party in the state, irrespective of their levels of representation.
The meeting, according to the lawmaker, focused principally on unity, cohesion and the need for all APC members to work together for the success of the party.
Reacting to recent comments by one Nigerian socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, concerning the Nwifuru administration, Dr Kama said people should not mistake social media popularity for grassroots acceptance.
He noted that while everyone had the freedom to express opinions, not every statement made on social media deserved a response.
“We have freedom of speech. People can talk whatever they want to talk and say whatever they want to say. If I want to respond, I respond, depending on whether it is worth responding to.
“Whatever anybody goes to social media to say, I believe we are all catching cruise, looking for likes and followership. When you want to do politics properly, you come to the ground. If you have what it takes, come and be on the field, not social media,” he added.
The lawmaker maintained that the real test of governance was not social media narratives but what citizens could physically see and experience in their communities.
According to him, voters are more concerned about roads, peace, water supply, agriculture and other tangible interventions the Governor has provided than political exchanges online.
“What they are seeing with their eyes is the most important thing. What they see and feel is what matters to them.
“They are seeing the roads, they are seeing the peace in their communities, the water, the agricultural programmes and the fertilisers they are getting from government. There is a lot going on, and this is more important to them than what anybody tells them on social media,” Kama observed.
On the APC meeting, the lawmaker said the gathering was aimed at strengthening cohesion among party members and ensuring that all elected officials worked collectively for the success of the party.
He said the party must remain the priority, urging members to embrace the spirit of “one for all, all for one.”
Kama, who is seeking re-election to the National Assembly, also promised to improve on his performance if given a second term.
He said his agenda would be to consolidate existing achievements, strengthen legislative representation and attract more dividends of democracy to his constituency.
“To take it greater, make it better, improve on what we have done so far and make sure that, which is paramount, we make laws that will benefit our people.
“We will go out of our way to look for things, look for dividends to bring back home. That is basically what it is all about.
“We are not changing anything. We are only working harder and better for the good of our people,” he said.
The lawmaker’s position comes amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the APC in Ebonyi seeking greater cohesion among its elected officials and structures across the state.
Meanwhile, on his distinctive fashion style, Kama said his dressing was a product of personal creativity and a desire to remain different. He explained that he had always loved dressing well and had, over the years, deliberately created a unique style for himself rather than copying others.
According to him, his creative instincts often allow him to conceptualise what he wants to wear before bringing the idea to reality, adding that he simply dresses in ways that make him happy and reflect his personality.
