Stakeholders comprising Town Union Presidents from communities across Ebonyi North Senatorial District have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing their performance in office.
The endorsement was announced during a meeting of Town Union Presidents held at Amagu, the ancestral home of the Izzi people in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Tuesday.
The State President-General of the Association of Town Union Presidents and President-General of Amagu Autonomous Community, Chief Augustine Akpu, said the decision followed wide consultations among members.
According to him, the endorsement covers President Tinubu, Governor Nwifuru, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi for Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu Eze for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Uguru for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency and APC candidates for the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
Akpu commended Governor Nwifuru for his achievements in infrastructure, youth empowerment, scholarships and workers’ welfare, while describing Senator Nwebonyi’s representation as impactful and people-oriented.
He, however, urged elected representatives to do more in youth empowerment, scholarships and social welfare, and called on politicians who lost elections to remain committed to peace and development.
The Association’s Public Relations Officer, Deacon Elijah Ituma, described Town Union Presidents as vital stakeholders in grassroots governance, peacebuilding and conflict resolution, urging government officials to involve community leaders more in governance and development initiatives.
Also speaking, the President-General of Alioma Community, Mr Monday Eze, advocated greater inclusion of Town Union leaders in government programmes, while Prince Sunday Ogboso of Mbeke-Ishieke Autonomous Community attributed the endorsement to ongoing infrastructure projects and visible development.
On his part, the President-General of Ndieze Enyim Autonomous Community, Dr. Austin Ezeora Aligwe, called for improved welfare packages, stipends and arrears for Town Union Presidents.
The stakeholders reaffirmed their support for the APC and called for stronger collaboration between government and grassroots leaders, as well as expanded youth empowerment, scholarship and community development programmes.
