Gov. Nwifuru’s Policies in Ebonyi Advancing Growth Says Aide- Oketa
Ebonyi State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has been commended for spearheading inclusive development and economic growth through people-oriented policies anchored on his administration’s “People’s Charter of Needs.”
The Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Leo Ekene Oketa who made this known in a statement on Tuesday, said the state is witnessing steady transformation across critical sectors, driven by deliberate governance and continuity of projects.
Oketa noted that since assumption of office, the governor had adopted a policy of “continuity and consolidation,” ensuring that ongoing and inherited projects were completed and put to productive use, rather than abandoned.
According to him, the administration has recorded remarkable progress in healthcare through the upgrade of general hospitals, recruitment of medical personnel, provision of modern equipment, and improved welfare packages for health workers. He added that the demerging Ebonyi State University medical students to complete their clinical training within the state is a boost.
In the education sector, the aide said the government had increased funding to , improved staff remuneration, reduced tuition fees, and embarked on the construction of 50 model secondary schools and pilot primary schools. He further disclosed that over 800 Ebonyians were currently benefiting from local and international scholarships in science and technology-related fields.
He also highlighted the establishment of the University of ICT in Offerekpe and the University of Aerospace Engineering in Ezza as strategic investments aimed at positioning the state as a hub for technological and scientific advancement.
On agriculture, Oketa said the administration had revitalised the Ebonyi State Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited, distributed farm inputs and equipment, and supported farmers with modern techniques to boost food production and rural economies.
He added that water supply had improved significantly with the rehabilitation of key facilities such as the Ezillo Water Treatment Plant and Oferekpe Water Scheme, while ongoing reticulation projects were extending access across the state.
Speaking on infrastructure, the governor’s aide disclosed that over 800 kilometres of roads were under construction across the state, alongside the completion of the runway at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Onueke. He also cited ongoing construction of flyovers, a tunnel at Vanco Junction, and a bridge linking Ebonyi and Benue states as part of efforts to enhance connectivity and economic activities.
Oketa further stated that the administration had prioritised civil service reforms, including prompt payment of salaries and pensions, clearance of backlog arrears, and employment of over 1,700 workers across various sectors.
He said security had also improved with the appointment of special assistants on internal security across local government areas, making Ebonyi one of the safest states in the country.
The aide noted that youth development and housing initiatives, including the establishment of Abakaliki Football Club and construction of housing units for displaced persons, were part of the government’s broader social intervention programmes.
According to him, the governor’s holistic approach to governance like integrating investments in infrastructure, human capital, and social welfare has created a foundation for sustainable growth and economic resilience in the state.
Oketa maintained that as the administration approaches its third anniversary, the impact of its policies is evident in improved living standards, increased economic activities, and enhanced opportunities for the people.
He added that Governor Nwifuru’s leadership style reflects a commitment to inclusive governance, accountability, and long-term development, positioning Ebonyi State as a model for transformative leadership in Nigeria.
