The All Progressives Congress in Ebonyi State has expressed deep sorrow over the death and burial of Most Rev. Dr. Peter Nworie Chukwu, describing his passing as a painful loss to the Catholic Church, the state, and humanity.

In a condolence message signed by the Ebonyi State APC Chairman, Hon Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, the party extended heartfelt sympathies to the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki and the entire Catholic faithful, noting that the late Bishop lived a life of faith, humility, and sacrificial service.

The party also condoled with Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, of Ebonyi State who is a devoted son of the Church with high commitment to Christian values of hard work, charity and more.

According to the statement, Bishop Chukwu, who was installed in 2021, made remarkable contributions to the spiritual growth and moral development of the faithful across the Diocese and beyond.

“As his remains are committed to mother earth today, we join the entire Catholic faithful in mourning this painful loss while celebrating a life of purpose, devotion, and enduring legacy at 60,” the statement read.

The party prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Bishop’s soul and for divine comfort for the Church and all those affected by the loss.

Late Most Rev. Dr. Peter Nworie Chukwu was ordained a Catholic priest on July 3, 1993. It would be also recalled that the revered Bishop died on April 8 and is being laid to rest today, May 13, 2026, at the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki.

Following his death, Most Rev. Ernest Anaezichukwu Obodo of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu was appointed Apostolic Administrator.
