The statewide flag-off rally of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State was reportedly disrupted by gunfire, tear gas and other disturbances, leaving several people allegedly injured and properties damaged.
The rally, organised to welcome the party’s governorship candidate, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, from the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, and formally launch the party’s statewide political campaigns, attracted a large turnout of supporters and party faithful from across the state.
The event, however, reportedly took a dramatic turn while the NDC deputy governorship candidate, Chief Frank Omeje, was addressing the gathering, as the suspected thugs allegedly opened fire, triggering tension and disrupting proceedings.

Despite the alleged violence, NDC supporters remained resolute, waving party flags, singing victory songs and demonstrating their commitment to Ohaa’s governorship ambition.

The defining moment came when governorship candidate, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, urged supporters not to be intimidated by the disruption, charging them to remain courageous, steadfast and committed to their aspirations.
He expressed confidence in his bid to become the next governor of Enugu State, assuring his supporters that their collective hope for a better state would not be derailed by the challenges confronting the party.
The rally attracted party candidates at various levels, ward chairmen and executive members, local government chairmen and executive council members, state executive members, as well as other party faithful.
The turnout reflected the party’s efforts to strengthen its presence across Enugu State as political activities gather momentum.
For many attendees, the gathering provided an opportunity to express support for Ohaa and their expectations for political change in the state.
The NDC has called on its structures across the state to sustain mobilisation and ensure active participation at ward and local government levels.
The identity of those allegedly involved in the incident could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.
