The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the forthcoming by-election for the Enugu North Senatorial District will be conducted across 1,488 polling units in the six local government areas of the district.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu, disclosed this while declaring open a three-day training for prospective Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu.

He identified the affected local government areas as Nsukka, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Udenu, Igbo-Etiti and Uzo-Uwani, noting that the election would cover 102 registration areas.

Chukwu said the size of the senatorial district required thorough preparation and charged participants to demonstrate commitment, discipline and professionalism throughout the exercise.

He explained that the training would equip prospective SPOs with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage the electoral process, stressing that only candidates who perform creditably in the assessment would be deployed for the June 20 by-election.

The REC added that successful participants would also be expected to train Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers and provide effective field supervision during the election.
