Ebonyi Stakeholders Back Governor, President, Ahead Of Polls
—Governor’s decision is final Says Emegha
Ebonyi Stakeholders have declared total support for the Governor, Rt Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging unity and loyalty ahead of forthcoming political activities.
The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting he convened at his residence in Camp David Estate, Abakaliki.
Chief Emegha, who recently returned as the party’s state chairman, expressed profound gratitude to the people for their prayers, encouragement and unwavering support, noting that his comeback would not have been possible without their collective efforts.
“I sincerely thank and appreciate our people for their prayers, encouragement and personal sacrifices. Their support made my return possible. Without their acceptance, it would have been difficult for the Governor to reconsider my return,” he said.
He emphasized that the meeting was convened to appreciate stakeholders and further strengthen unity across political divides in Edda, adding that the area must avoid any form of division.
According to him, stakeholders across party lines, including influential non APC members, attended the meeting, demonstrating a shared commitment to peace, progress and continuity of good governance.
“In Edda, we do not want any breach. We are not interested in unnecessary political contest. What we want is for the good work of the Governor and Mr. President to continue, regardless of party affiliations,” he stated.
Chief Emegha disclosed that the gathering resolved to align fully with the leadership direction of the Governor, insisting that his decisions remain binding on all political actors from the area.
He further noted that while the people of Edda would continue to pursue their legitimate interests, they would do so within the framework of loyalty and respect for the Governor, whom he described as having delivered significantly for the area.
The APC chairman added that the stakeholders’ meeting would be sustained as a platform for continuous engagement, dialogue and consensus building to maintain unity and political stability in Edda land.
“There is no contest for any political position for now, whether House of Assembly, House of Representatives or Senate, until we understand the body language of the Governor. His decision is final.
“We will continue to meet and engage ourselves. Today’s meeting was fruitful and well attended. There was no dissenting voice. We are united and committed to a common purpose,” Chief Emegha added.
Meanwhile, other stakeholders at the Edda meeting, including the Edda Council Chairman, Chima Presley Ekumankama, and Dr. Onuoha Nnachi, who aligned with the position of the State APC Chairman, Chief Emegha, described the outing as a unifying “family meeting” that bridged divides ahead of the next elections.
However, former commissioner for Information, Abia Onyeike, while backing the unity drive, maintained his ambition to represent Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency in the next elections.
